“I am the way, the truth, and the life!” (John 14:6).
Ever ask for directions only to have someone say, “You can’t get there from here”? What you need at a time like that is someone who can give clear directions on how to get from where you are to the place you want to arrive.
With the advent of the internet the way to get directions is often easier. A quick click to the map sites will give you insight on the place you want to go. In another step you can get directions from where you are to the place of your destination with every turn clearly defined. Most of the time it works pretty well. Sometimes it takes you the long way around the world to get where you want to go.
Before the arrest, trial, and crucifixion of Jesus, He began to prepare the disciples for the journey ahead. He let them know that He was going away to prepare a place for them. It sounded like He assumed they knew the directions to get there when Jesus said, “And where I go you know, and the way you know” (John 14:4). Thomas, in honest response, said, “Lord, we don’t know the way!” That is when the Master responded, “I am the way, the truth, and the life!” (John 14:6). Jesus is the roadmap and the access. When you need to know the way, Jesus is the way, follow Him!
Jesus is the ultimate GPS! Cars equipped with GPS come with the directions installed. All you have to do is input your destination. The route is calculated by the onboard computer, your location is determined by satellite detection, and your directions are delivered one turn at a time. As long as you make the correct turn and follow the instructions as they are delivered, you will arrive at your final destination. If we follow the directions that Jesus has given, one step at a time, we can be assured of a safe and correct destination.
His way is the path of truth and the road of life. Truth is not a destination; it is a journey. Life is not gained on your arrival; it is to be experienced daily. The best life is by taking His way. His words are truth and they are life … follow his way!
